JAKARTA – 430 people or 9% of the company’s total employees will be affected by the termination of employment (FLE) from Gojek management.
This announcement was delivered by Gojek Co-CEO, Kevin Aluwi and Andre Soelistyo, through an e-mail to all Gojek employees. According to Kevin, the decision to lay off his employees was none other than the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have taken various steps to optimize the company. So, it can continue to grow. However, turns out we are not enough to anticipate an unavoidable decline. Like the current pandemic,” Kevin wrote in his official statement, Tuesday, June 23 .
Gojek was forced to close the GoLife business. It’s included GoMassage and GoClean services. The GoFood Festival which is the food court network in several locations will also be closed. This decision was made based on the evaluation related to the macroeconomic situation and changes in community activities.
Especially these two businesses, GoLife and GoFood Festival, need close interaction. Even so, Gojek still allows users to use the service GoLife until 27 of July.
“We are very grateful that you have made a meaningful contribution to Gojek’s success over the years. You have become a valuable part of Gojek’s history and journey,” Kevin continued.
Although many employees were laid off, Gojek will be responsible. Similar to Grab, Gojek will provide various support. Including severance and health insurance until the end of 2020.
“We want to provide as much support as possible. The financial sustainability is the biggest concern at this time,” said Gojek Co-CEO Andre Soelistyo.
“Affected employees will receive severance pay. We set a minimum salary of 4 weeks plus an additional 4 weeks of salary for each year of work,” continued Andre.
Gojek also invited employees to have office equipment that has been used. So they can look for other business opportunities or other jobs. The affected Gojek employees will also receive annual leave payments. As well as extended health insurance for employees and families until December 31, 2020.
The company will provide an outplacement program that will help everyone find another job. One of them is the COVID-19 Partner Solidarity program.
“This is a program to improve skills through online training. It can be a long-term provision to obtain additional income. In addition, Gojek will also provide cash assistance programs for active partners who meet the criteria,” explained Andre.
